Archibald’s Restaurant At Gardner Village Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

We attended a cheer banquet (same food catered as Archibalds) and long story, short: 20 of us got novovirus. Fecal related from their staff!! When taking this up with their management, they discounted it and blamed it on the caramel apples. Shame on them...many became painfully sick not to mention disrupting schedules of work & school.

Well, it was just OK. The setting at Gardner Village is kind of neat...the whole place is a restored 19th century mill with a surrounding period village shipped in piecemeal from other areas. It is now a retail village with lots of quaint little shops. We visited on an evening in the middle of the week during the holidays and found a nearly deserted locale...it was a little depressing. But the restaurant, situated in the restored, original mill building, actually had quite a few tables filled...promising. We were seated in the "silo" room, a round room with nine booths around the periphery, each dedicated to one of Archibald's eleven(!) wives (he was a polygamist). Our waiter was efficient, if not particularly friendly. Dude, would it kill you to smile? We started with their signature dish, fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were pretty good, though not authentically Southern...usually, they are coated in a cornmeal crust. These were coated with Panko breadcrumbs. They were nicely seasoned and fried well...they were just a little strange. The accompanying sauce was not as good...it seemed to be fry sauce (a Utah "invention"...it is a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise) with chopped pickles, and diluted with pickle juice. My wife got the small Cobb salad...the flavor wasn't half bad (how can you ruin a salad?) but they served it on a little bread plate. C'mon man, at least pretend it is supposed to be an entree! I had the King-cut prime rib, their largest size, for $17.99. When I got it, I had to wonder how big the smaller sizes were since this one seemed to be a paltry 12-14 ounces. When I tasted it, I was glad there wasn't more. It looked to be done to a perfect medium-rare...however, it was evident that they hadn't properly allowed the meat to rest...it was bone-dry. Nothing crusted the exterior so the dry, bland meat had to be drowned in the au jus and horseradish sauce (also quite bland). The accompanying potato was fine, as were the sauteed veggies, but the meat was very disappointing. The setting of the village is quite darling, as my wife would say...I would probably avoid eating here though.

Dropped in for the lunch special sandwich one day and thought it was delicious. I need to go back and try that prime rib.

I have never had a bad meal here. I actually drive out of my way to get the stroganoff when I get a craving. The wait staff is always accommodating and pleasant. The "silo" room can get quite noisy with large groups, but conversation is still possible. The only problem I have ever had is with the hostesses when we meet there as a group and have to wait for everyone before we are seated. One time they wouldn't even put us on the wait list until everyone was present- five of us there and waiting for one, ridiculous. Still, I would come back, I enjoy the food and the atmosphere.

Plus and minuses. Good points and bad points. I am impressed by the sampler items. Obviously the onions in the fried Onions Rings are freshly made. Ditto the Zucchini and the avocados, as well as the Green Tomatoes. The other foods I ordered were fried as well and I guess I am getting old enough that I can't eat that much fried foods. Service was perfect and on the spot. Off setting it was the two groups occupying the middle of the room. Adding to this is the sounds of what I assume is renovations from upstairs the din in that room gets on your nerves. Still lunch was okay.

Ugh. Had reservation, but had to wait an additional 20 minutes. Ordered steak Medium, was cooked beyond Well Done. Service extremely slow. We actually refilled our own drinks as Server was no where to be found. Good GF options. Mashed potatoes not bad. Fried green tomatoes were nice.

If your looking for a nice place to eat, fast, and cheap then this is it! But remember it's fast and cheap doesn't mean it always taste good. I have been here multiple times and sometimes I think it's going down girl and other times it's on the up swing. However, for he most part it's good food, friendly people, and a great atmosphere.

The service is bad. They had to make us wait to clean of the table as they had already walked us over to the table. We waited 45 mins for a table. They forgot to give us menus when we sat down, there went another 5 minutes. I'm sure it was evident that I was pissed. She came to take the drink order and I immediately ordered an appetizer, the highly recommended fried green tomatoes. The reviews were right, they are good. No bread before the appetizer either. The family who sat down 15 mins after us received bread. Wtf? My husband and I ordered each the prime rib. It was good for coming recommended and for the price of cheap. Then they served the bread. Ugh. But i think the best part of that dish was the grilled squashes. They were amazing and I wish I had more of that than the prime rib! The service from after ordering the appetizer was better. Will only return if I want the fried green tomatoes and veggies.

First, I am invisible, second to be snubbed by the Hostess in such a bigoted fashion, third, the BLUE cheese dressing was swill, 4th, a club sandwich it was NOT, 5th, the meat was straight off the Sysco truck, warm and tasteless. Totally embarrassed was I to bring someone there. saving grace the server was attentive. Obviously NOT the place to go if you are not from the predominate faith, yes to be snubbed with a smile takes practice, they must not get to many NON-Mormons in there, they look down at you and will address everyone sitting around you, leaving you to believe you are INVISIBLE

Out of the 4 of us, 1 person liked his meal, 2 thought their meals were ok and 1 would come back and one probably wouldn't and 1 didn't like his meal and definitely wouldn't come back. I don't remember what everyone had, but it was cold out and I order the chicken pot pie. I don't remember having a chicken pot pie with potatoes and certainly not one where potatoes were the main ingredient. It looked very nice but should have been called the potato pot pie. I doubt there was a tablespoon of chicken to be found. A very interesting ambiance, but very unimpressive food.

APPALLING customer service from the time I walked through the front door till the moment I left! I will NEVER return! They don't take reservations. Your entire party is required to be present at the front desk before you check in. Once checked in we waited 45 minutes for a table. Once seated, the wait staff was SLOW and unresponsive to our needs. The food isn't that great for the prices and the restaurant is crowded and noisy. Horrible experience!

We had a fantastic waitress (I wish I could remember her name), and thus I am awarding one star to her and her alone. The food here is so very lackluster, I don't know where to begin. I had a croissant turkey club with wilted iceberg lettuce and hardly any avocado. Blah. The turkey was of the sliced- in- the- bologna- section- of the- grocery- store- variety (read Buddig). My grandson's mac and cheese kids meal was shells and Velveeta, which he wouldn't really eat much of (he ate my french fries). That was almost $6. My grandaughter's broccoli cheese soup was runny and tasted like carrot soup. I cannot figure why the line was out the door for this place, but we will not be back.

Terrible. This was my first visit. I was meeting a couple friends here with our kids. To start off with the hostess wasn't very friendly. We had to wait for about 10 min, fine not a big deal. We popped our heads into the Over priced furniture store. - waste of time. Anyway we were finally seated. The menu was so so. It seemed like there was a little variety however, I don't think I'd get tacos from a "home style" restaurant. I ended up getting a french dip with a salad. The meat was cold and initially it didn't even come with the au jus- I had to ask. The waitress seemed not interested in giving us refills on our drinks. The plus side was it was pretty noisy so t didn't matter if our kids were noisy. Fast forward I got food poisoning! I swear I've never been that ill. The next week I happened to look at their rating with the salt lake health department. Let's just say, had I looked before I never would have gone. And I'm never going back. From now on I'm checking out every place I eat. That's the only thing I'd recommend from this review.

They are always so accommodating! My friend raves about their Fajita salad, she loves it. So I wanted to try it, I don't normally eat the taco shell, cheese or sour cream. I asked for extra lettuce instead of the taco shell, extra avocado instead of sour cream and salsa for the dressing. They made it perfect and no complaining. I will for sure be getting that a again! And my daughter loves their homemade Mac and cheese. Love the decor and taking my kids to walk around the village, fun for all of us.

It was my first time. I came with my wife. We started with the fried green tomatoes appetizer, then shared the prime rib and shrimp. It was great! The bread, the mashed potatoes, the fried green tomatoes, prime rib, and the shrimp were all excellent. We sat in the silo room--pretty cool ambiance and interesting decor of old photos and possessions of Archibald Gardner's wives--one wife per table. Our waitress was very nice and helpful in selecting our dishes. The only negative was the men's bathroom; it was cold, noisy, and had cheap half-width toilet paper--not cool! We ended the meal with the best part--the white chocolate bread pudding. It was warm and sweet, and heavenly! We will definitely be back many times and bring family and friends.

Never heard of the place, but went on a lunch meeting. I was surprised that they had large booths and that the restrooms looked nice and new. Service was great, the waitress checked on us often. The fried green tomatoes were delicious. I've never found those here. I was pleased with them. True southern food from home. I don't know why they were served with a sauce to dip them in, but they were nice, firm, and tangy. Covered with a batter of course The chicken and four cheese pastas was ok. Noodles a little to soft for me, and the sauce was real cheesy (no pun). It seemed like they used Kraft cheese. It had good little mushrooms and decent chicken cuts in it, which I suspect came frozen, already cooked. I'd say go there for the fried green tomatoes, they were divine.

We had a very nice lunch here today. Our waitress (Cami) took very good care of us and we all enjoyed our choices of meals. We all decided that if you were to heat up the fried green tomato sauce you could serve it as a delicious soup, and as a side it would be better than most fry sauces.

I am SO disappointed! From my first interaction with the hostess, to trying to get my check at the end of the meal... the whole event was a nightmare! The hostess was rude and flat out ignored us for ten minutes. Finally, another lady came to seat us. I ordered a glass of wine. When our drinks came, not only did my glass have lipstick on it, there were two dead fruit flies floating in my wine! I asked the waitress for a new glass of wine. She brought me a 'new glass' of wine. This new glass had the SAME lipstick on the rim, but only one fruit fly now. The fried green tomatoes are good, I like the sauce that came with them. My turkey dinner was okay. When we were ready to leave our waitress was no where to be found. I finally asked a different passing waitress for our check. After waiting for fifteen minutes. The hostess brought our check. I thought she was rude the first time we interacted with her... boy was I wrong! This woman acted like bringing us our check was the worst inconvenience of her life. I couldn't get out of this place fast enough. We will NOT be back anytime soon.

Disappointing from start to finish. They said it would be a 20 minute wait for a table, it was double that. The waitress was nice, but slow to get things started. The food was so so except the vegetables which were delicious as was the sour dough bread. The worst thing was the table next to us. The kids screamed non stop to where we couldn't even eat. I spoke with the manager who did nothing. I doubt we will be back.

Met here for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. In the past I have not been overly excited about this restaurant. It seems that when it first opened back in the days, it was good - but over time it just became a "has been". I ordered the chicken piccata and it was excellent. The sauce with the capers was tart and tasty and the chicken was flavorful and very moist. It came with a small side of wild rice, which was excellent as well. It would have been nice if a side salad would have been offered. Bread was so so - French bread with whipped butter. If you serve this type of bread - it should come with chilled real butter, not whipped. We also had the seasonal pumpkin pie/cake dessert. A very large piece, was it over the top? No, it was average, but a nice way to end the meal.

Three strikes, and you're out Archibald's. The first time we went is was eh, okay. Nothing special. Very overpriced. Horrible customer service. The second time we went, same thing. Not very good food. Overpriced. Horrible customer service. Well the only reason we decided to go a third time was because I had received a birthday email coupon for a free entree, so we decided to go. I order the prime rib and shrimp. My husband ordered a medium black and blue steak. My husbands steak came out well. And my prime rib was literally too tough even cut. It was disgusting. I let the server know and the manager came out and offered to rectify the situation. I asked if I could just a sirloin steak instead. They agreed and I asked for it medium. And if came out so charred and well I could barely eat it. But at this point we decided nothing was going to be better so neither of us mentioned the poorly cooked steaks. And it was so overpriced, even with my coupon it was 35$. And the service was so slow. Never again Archibald's.

Amazing fish & chips, 3 very large pieces with your choice of salad or huge portion of tasty fries. It's hard to believe (or not) that the fish & chips were far superior to that of the fallen Market Street.

  • S C.

The food has never been anything special. I keep trying different things thinking I just got the wrong thing. Servers have been great. My main complaint would be the hosts and managers. Those women are never in a good mood. They act like they don't need the business and that it is our pleasure to be served by them.

A magical quaint little restaurant, set in an enchanting cozy little village! Though 'tis a bit heavy on the price, it makes up for the weight in atmosphere and taste! The fried green tomatoes are an absolute must have, as I would probably give a limb for an order, pretty much that good!

  • Steve B.

It is a cute touristy restaurant in a similar style shopping village. I had friendly and fast service, and most of the food was pretty good, except I made the assumption that my soup bread bowl was going to be a chewy tasty sourdough (pretty standard, yes?) but it was not sourdough, was very hard, and not edible. The bread (and butter) that was served with the meal was better...I will return, but try something else. I agree that the higher price is for the "atmosphere".

I really liked this place - way more than I was expecting. Now none of the food will blow you away, but all of it is good and hardy (you won't leave hungry). The restaurant is very cute and has lots of stuff to do before and after because of it's ideal location in Gardner Village.

I have driven by Archibald's so many times I dare not venture a guess how many times it has been but needless to say it has been a lot. Being the foodie that I am I have no idea why I had not checked this place out sooner. My wife and I were doing the dinner dance, you know the one, "I don't know, where do you want to go". So after doing that for a few minutes my wife suggested Archibald's, I owe her one, this place is great!!!! I am not a decor guy when it comes to restaurants, I am all about the food. The place is a dive but the food is great, sign me up, having said that, I really enjoyed the decor here, I like how the seating areas are so broken up and the "eating at my mom's house feel" that the place had. So how about the food, it was one of the best meals that I have had since moving to Salt Lake a year ago, no really, it was very, very, good. I had the Traditional Turkey Dinner, thick slices of tender turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, and mixed vegetables. The vegetables were a great blend of green peppers, red peppers, onions, summer squash, carrots, broccoli, and one or two other items, they were fresh and very flavorful. The turkey was very tender and very good and the mashed potatoes and stuffing tasted homemade which is always a good thing. My wife had the Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry and she loved it, very large servings for a modest price, the drinks were refilled often by a very friendly young lady who took good care of us. Archibald's is now one of my go to places when I have company in town, up till now any time I entertained guest it was up to Ruth's Diner but now I have a top notch place close to home. If you have never tried Archibald's go, if you have been before and have not been back in a while, time to give it another look. Live local, be local, buy local!!!!! See you next time Yelpers .................

I ordered the full Cobb Salad for lunch, it was pre-made, old lettuce, tomatoes were old, MAYBE 2 small pieces of chicken, I would guess less than a Tablespoon of chicken, no avocado as menu said, pathetic presentation, ranch dressing was watery and the salad had water in the bowl. I would say, extremely over priced and not fresh!!!

  • Kris I.

I love Archibald's. The ambiance can't be beat, it's almost never busy, and the food is fantastic. Especially for the price! Their fried tomatoes are all right, but I'm not a huge tomato fan. When we visit Archie's, we usually don't get a starter because the portions are pretty big and we don't want to explode. My husband likes their pasta dishes - any pasta dish. I love their chicken fried steak. Their quiche isn't bad, but it's not the best thing on the menu. Best dessert hands down: bread pudding. It's fan-freakin-tastic. Bonus: if you sign up on their website, they'll send you coupons for free desserts. And I believe they give you a free dinner during your birthday month as well. The best part about Archibald's is that it's pretty inexpensive. It feels like a nice, upscale restaurant but the check is always much kinder than you'd expect. It's a great little place to stop by for dinner after a day of wandering through Gardner Village.

I came in for lunch with my mom while visiting my family. This is her new favorite place- (she loves the fried avocados!!) I had the fish tacos and was pleasantly surprised!! I'm used to the super flavorful and spicy California food, so I wasn't expecting much- but it was pretty damn good!! Better was the service, KaRynn (cute name btw...) was amazing!! Super fun, smiley, friendly and efficient. She did great, and next time I visit I will definitely ask for her section... :)

I know, I know - people may hate on me for this, but I love the cozy feel of this restaurant and the simple, down home cooking. When you want comfort food, I think this is a great place to go! In truth, the 4 stars is mainly attributed to their fried green tomatoes and fried avocados appetizer. That, in and of itself, deserves 5 stars, the other food probably 3 stars, hence the 4 star rating. The fried green tomatoes have just the right amount of tangy bite and the fried avocados are so rich and yummy it's sinful! The dipping sauce they pair it with is just right, enhancing the flavor without overwhelming it. I had the chicken cordon bleu, my husband the surf and turf (a filet mignon accompanied with salmon). I'm a simple gal, and chicken cordon bleu is one of my favorites, so I couldn't really go wrong. My husband's filet was just okay, only because he didn't realize how fishy salmon was and a lot of the juice from the salmon made it's way over to his filet, leaving a rather "fishy" tasting filet. However, he raved about the fries, saying they were the absolute BEST restaurant fries he'd ever had - and he orders fries with ALL his meals! :) Overall, if you want a casual, comfy dining experience with basic, no-nonsense food, I'd give this place a try!

I went to Archibald's earlier today. I got the prime rib (because that's what I get anytime it's available) with french fries. Oddly, the prime rib was bad, but the two others at my table were fine. It was very strange. The fries were super yummy and had a great crunch to them! I let the waitress know that the prime rib was bad, and she got the manager, who was amazing! I thought I might get a percentage off, or a free dessert. I have to tell you, this woman clearly knows how to manage a great restaurant...she comped my meal and gave me a free dessert to go. That has to be the best service I've received in a long time, and I am grateful for the manager's excellent customer service which made for a pretty positive ending to a pretty crappy week. I will definitely go back. By the way, every other time I've been there, the food has been great. Thank you Archibald's!!!

The setting is nice. They village is cute and scenic - the food ....... eh, it was okay. Once I had a special for lunch - the fish tacos. I was pleasantly surprised. They weren't the best I ever had but by far the worst. Today I had the Pot Roast and it was awful. The meat had a very processed taste to it. There had to be at least 4 potatoes cut up for just me. If I was shopping in Gardner Village I would be okay eating here but just for the convenience - not the food.

The environment is not my style, but... Three words: Fried Green Tomatoes..They are better here than some of the ones I've had down south.

A bit pricey for the food but is so yummy! Always great service and fresh food. Great comfort food place. Lunch is especially good.

Setting and service is great. Food is decent. Try to get Into one of the booths dedicated to "archie's" wives. I may have a bias because archibald was my great great grand dad.

The setting is cute, but the food isn't particularly fantastic. It usually leaves me feeling a bit uneasy in the stomach. Not a great option for vegetarians either.
